*~*September Releases*~*

A new month and new releases once again. I still can't believe today is the last breath of August ~ how sad ... but September is a delightful month as well so let's on to it!

Seaside Memories
Verses by Amy Lowell and Anne Bronte grace this souvenir design to keepsake your summer vacation. (click photo to enlarge)

Clara's Christmas Dance 1892
Similiar in style to my last year's design, Clara's Skating Sampler 1891, comes a new journal entry pinkeep. Verse by me reads: Dear Diary, Party to-night at hill house. Mistletoe and holly all around. I danced with my sweetheart. Drank punch by the tree. Clara 1892. (click photo to enlarge)

Both new patterns will be available on my website tomorrow (9/1) with charts being sent to distributors after Labor Day. Hope the start to your week, and your month!, is a splendid one.

a day with a y in it

I double checked the calendar and yes, it's Friday. Feels more like a Monday but the calendar told me so. This morning it was overcast and I knew it was going to rain, not monsoon, just rain at some point but they said later. I know they said later. So the chickadees and I went out for donuts as a late breakfast and in the time it took Zack to eat his donut, part of my croissant sandwich, most of my hash rounds while carrying on a deep conversation with his brother (who wasn't paying attention) and his mother (who was contemplating buying more food since hers was being taken), the scarce sunlight behind the clouds had disappeared. We were back in the car just maybe two minutes when the sky opened. I always think there has to be another turbo wiper setting but it was pumped to the max as we headed for the post office. By the time we got there, it was beyond bad. The visibility...well, there was none. We parked and watched the rain cascade down the windows which was hypnotic. When the downpour eased a goodly amount, Ben was a dear and ran in to get the mail from my box. By the time he came back to the car, the sun was out again and the view outside was that look the earth appears after a hard rain. Next stop, the bank. Sounds simple but nothing is simple on a Monday, I mean this Friday.

We passed streets that were dry as a bone and clearly had raced the storm out of town, or so we thought. Turns out that Friday, close to noon now, was the ideal time for ATM maintenance. Doesn't that make sense? So, it was on to another branch where their ATM was being worked on as well so on to the drivethru which I had been wanting to avoid because of the lines but hey, it's only time and the kids in the car wanted to be in line, why not! When it was my turn, the guy asked how I was so I told him. Why on earth is Friday the day for ATM maintenance??? Sorry, ma'am, but there is an ATM around the corner. Like I'm blind - yes, I know BUT I wanted a drivethru ATM to be working - see the children in the backseat, one has taken his shoes off and the other has cranked up the volume on that gameboy which I know has given me a nervous eye twitch, and the RAIN is coming down once again??? Sorry, ma'am.

I had planned to take the boys to the library but we opted to head back home. More rain followed us and the monsoon, second of the day, came our way. Back home to find our yard bags down the street in a big puddle chatting with other neighbors' yard bags. So to continue the Monday mood around here, I cleaned house and now ready for the week-end to visit. I hope it's a good one.

Here's a glimpse of another upcoming pattern...I was tinkering with the blurry effect on the camera which is highly addicting. Enjoy your week-end!

she's back

While walking to the farmers market with Zack one day this month, I saw a car (my car) drive by with a guy (my guy) driving and yelling out the window, hey sampler girl! DH likes to call me that to get my attention and I dare say he is my biggest fan even though he likes to continually question me on why Jane Austen's novels are "made into yet another film version "and "what is it again about this Darcy guy" and reminding me that I'm "the noctural one" because I stitch when the moon comes out. Well, this stitching Janeite can't seem to keep the studio closed up for any longer so the webshop is open once again. The orders received during my time off have already been sent. Thank you for your sweet patronage ... it's good to be back :)

salmon cakes

I had planned to make shrimp pasta salad and bruschetta tonight but didn't realize I had the wrong style pasta in the pantry (just jumbo size on hand and my mouth is big but...) so went a huntin' for something else simple and quick. Here's what I came up with and it satisfied. Although I think I've found the one food that Zack won't eat and Ben is at a friend's house so he didn't have to hold his nose.

Salmon Cakes
2 cans Trader Joe Pink Alaska Salmon (I love their brand - no bones really to pick through)
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon onion powder (didn't have an onion so....)
salt
pepper
1 teaspoon Dill
1 t Dijon Mustard, again Trader Joes brand - very good
1 small green pepper, chopped - never tried this before because I usually prefer green onions or celery in it but it's little bit of crunch worked!
1/2-2/3 cup bread crumbs

Blend all together in a medium sized bowl and form into patties. Chill in frig for awhile or go straight to the next step! Toss patties lightly in flour and garlic powder and brown both sides in heated pan with olive oil and a pat of unsalted butter.
We always have salmon cakes with applesauce with is the right balance of moisture. Good eats and kitchen is closed now. Note to self...buy corkscrew pasta tomorrow :)

ok, but just a glimpse

I've been eager to show & tell you about what I have planned for a release, Jane Austen inspired, coming up soon but will hold my secret a wee bit longer and just show you a glimpse of one of them...

There ~ now what do you think? More to follow...in September, of course :)

Stacy in MD stitched By the Ocean with Jane Austen and made into a pillow for her beach-themed office at home. Lovely! I adore the seashell border!

While at the Outer Banks, we did some sightseeing mixed in with our sand & sea frolic. I fell in love with lighthouses on probably the hottest day of my lifetime. I don't think I've ever experienced such humid heat. It was beyond bad. I'm still shocked you can't see the steam from the sun in this photo! This is Bodie Island Lighthouse ~ isn't she a beauty? At a beach bookstore, I found a book on Lighthouse Families and this one's was included and it was fascinating. The lightkeeper's family would come join him in the summer months and apparently the mosquitos were so thick in abundance...can you imagine? And the gnats...they'd have to close the doors and suffer in the heat inside because the gnats would come through the screens! The children growing up in these lighthouse families would have activities like swimming and fishing...that's about it! Shining like a beacon in the night, these lighthouses are breathtaking to see in person. Now I'm eager to visit more of them along the east coast sometime.

Well, they say when in Rome...so we had to visit Duck Donuts. This fairly new donut shop has a few locations and we were happy there was one near Nags Head. These cake style donuts were HOT and rolled in cinnamon sugar or dipped in icing to suit your desire. Oh MY were they heavenly. I have to say they were even better than hot Krispy Kreme donuts - yeppers, amazing.

In nearby Kitty Hawk is the Wright Brothers Memorial. It's run by the National Park Service and a must to see when visiting the area. I had just the basic history lesson knowledge of these brothers from Dayton, Ohio so wow, this museum, memorial and background given by the park rangers was really interesting.

One of the best items packed was a small inflatable pool for Zack. Ben filled it each day with sea water and it was quite a good distraction for Zack to play in, put sand in, wash toys in, whatever!

hello dear blog

Yesterday was my mom's birthday. 59th. We had a dinner party in celebration at our house. I fixed curried chicken, a family favorite, and chocolate cake (Ina Garten's recipe)...bliss on a plate. My brother switched the candles around to be funny. It was. Such a positively delicious evening with rain in the background. My brother's girlfriend arranged the most beautiful flowers for Mom. Miss Maddy thought the party was for her, we think.

I'm easing back into this online thing. It's been a wonderful time off and I still am not ready for school to start. I saw Julie and Julia which was excellent, better than the book in my opinion. Watched The Duchess the other night. Wow. Amazing that Duke wasn't poisoned with mutton. No Darcy in that sod.

I put all our beach photos in a scrapbook which is heavy and now a book which Zack likes to gaze at for long periods of time and then say 'i have idea - lets go beach, mama, ok? that good idea, mama?' The shells have been cleaned, labeled and stored in glass jars for memorykeeping. We've been home a bit now but I can still plant my feet in the sand of memories that seem very nearby. Autumn is in the air but not. School is upcoming but not for 2 weeks. That list of school supplies still floats around my purse awaiting to be pulled out and checked off. Still summer here.

On the stitching side of things...I ordered and received one of primitivebetty's new patterns called Live Simply Faith which I fell in love with. I started Ann Taylor Sampler, one of those stunning patterns by Beth Twist. As for The Sampler Girl ... I have some releases in the works; two of which my model stitcher is working away on and one which I am very much enjoying because it is Jane Austen inspired. Thank you, Sherry S., for that article on Jane - very lovely of you to mail it my way! I can't seem to get enough of Miss Austen.

So I best be going then. I picked up blueberry turnovers at the store today which looked just made and I think will be just eaten very soon. Till next time ...

mermaid

I hadn't done any embroidery in quite awhile so to get my feet wet again, this mermaid freebie was the perfect choice. Isn't she sweet?

you have to see this!

This is adorably sweet! Harmien stitched Jane Austen Love Letter for her sweetie's hike and affixed it to his backpack. So clever!!

04 August 2009

honey mustard chicken

Honey Mustard = tasty goodness. DH refers to me sometimes as the one who knows honey mustard. I don't know if I'm that crazy about the condiment, dip, eat-with-a-spoon sauce...but maybe I am. So I was in the mood for some kind of honey mustard chicken tonight and came up with the following concotion for dinner. Served with pickles and tomatoes on an onion roll with corn and baked beans. It worked. It pleased.

Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwiches
(adjust to your number of hungry mouths)
1 goodly sized pkg. of chicken breasts, thinned, boneless and skinless
1 bottle Lawry's Dijon and Honey with lemon juice Marinande OR your fav honey mustard
garlic powder
salt
pepper
plain bread crumbs
olive oil

Drizzle olive oil in the bottom of a pyrex baking dish so your chicken won't stick. Now for the fun part. Pour at least 1/2 bottle of honey mustard into a large plastic ziploc and sprinkle in desired amounts of garlic powder, salt and pepper. Toss in the chicken, zip close well, and toss around in bag to coat. Pour a generous amount of bread crumbs onto a plate and now dreg each chicken piece coated with honey mustard goodness in bread crumbs, shake excess off, and place in the pyrex baking dish.
Bake uncovered at 375 for 20 minutes.

my maddy

Maddy loves her new super scratchy. She was appreciative so posed for the camera this afternoon. She is also the proud owner of a new brush. Treats too. She likes Tuesday around here. Hope you treat yourself with something special today too!
