Punchneedle & Me

I'm worn out. I tried my first punchneedle project and I do love the finished look but getting there isn't as easy as I thought. Well, take that back ~ it's easy and quick but my punching hand gets so tense and hurts like all get out, that it takes away from the punching fun and craze that I've heard about. Hancock Fabrics had weavers cloth so I transferred a sweet free doodle by primitivebettys and very much love my little bunny. You can sense the movement in his legs as he hops through the flowers. Here's a photo, true to its colors, before I made a tiny pillow out of it which follows as you can see.

I used the punch needle that calls for all six strands and went through DMC like nobody's business. Zip, next skein! Zip, next skein! I had a rhythm going and the pain in my hand was so numb that it was beyond hurting. What didn't help was I had sprained my right thumb a week or so ago, still have no clue how!, so that was acting up during the punching technique. I just kept thinking thank goodness I didn't tackle a larger project! I'm already thinking of other darling designs (have you seen the PN ones at countrystitchesonline.com?) that I want to have a go at, but not tomorrow. Tomorrow, I stitch.

Wonderful job, wonderful finish! Any hand craft can be addicting once you get started, and you can't put it down. Hope your hand heals soon, and maybe take a break every so often while you are punching. Might help with the cramping. I love to punch, and also do rug hooking and stitching. I notice when I go from one to the other, that the muscles I use for one aren't the same as another art form. Amazing how many muscles are in the hand lol! Great job, and I hope you do more!

Your bunny is adorable and I love the pillow! Since your first try turned out so well you just HAVE to do some more. When your thumb heals and you get more used to the punching motion, it shouldn't hurt as much.

It's cute! I've wondered about this craft myself. Sounds like it's draining :)

For all your pain, your piece came out beautifully. Maybe your pain was coming from compensating because of your thumb sprain. You did such a wonderful job on this you know you just have to make another one!

I do love how punchneedle looks, but given how fast it goes through DMC, I won't be indulging in that particular new hobby. It's about $1.50/skein here!

Ouch, that sounds like a painful hobby to have. You make sure you don't sprain any stitching or designing muscles! The bunnies look super cute, though. Well done!

So cute! I've never tried punch needle, and looking at your photos made me want to try, but after reading I'm not so sure... it does sounds draining... Hope your hand feels back to normal again soon!

I like the way PN looks, but I'm no good at it! I've tried several times with little success. Yours looks great... congrats on a lovely first attempt!

You did a great job!!! I love punchneedle too but my hand never hurts. Hmmmm...I'm no expert but I'm wondering if it is your needle or the way you are holding it.
